This past Sunday I had the pleasure of spending the day at The Gentle Barn. The Gentle Barn rescues, rehabilitates and gives sanctuary to severely abused animals. Then kids interact with the animals to learn kindness, compassion and confidence.
When you go to The Gentle Barn you get to see these gorgeous, happy animals blissfully living their lives. You can HUG A COW (I’m shouting because it was amazing), cuddle a turkey, lay with a pig, hold a chicken, just to name a few. They really emphasize the notion that humans and animals are the same even though we look different. Being there made my heart sing. It was my second trip of many to come.
What people tend to forget is that animals also want to live full, happy lives just like humans. It’s interesting how most people see cats and dogs as pets but think of other animals like cows, pigs, chickens, etc. as food. The longer I’m vegan the more blaring it becomes to me that we shouldn’t be eating animals or anything that comes from them. Nor should we be killing these animals for clothes. Even though I’ve been vegan for awhile now I had no idea how much I was reducing my carbon footprint. Being there I learned that following a plant based diet saves 198 animals a year, 1 acre of land and 600 gallons of water A DAY! If you happen to be in California I highly recommend going and seeing it for yourself. They really are doing something special up there. http://gentlebarn.org
