Jumpsuits and Denim

I’ve said it many times but I’ll say it again, I LOVE jumpsuits.  Like I just want wear them all day, everyday.  They are so versatile and I think they flatter every woman’s body. You can dress them up or dress them down.  I find it to be an effortlessly cool look.

My friends and I do these “clothing swaps” where we all bring thing we don’t want or don’t wear and then we go through each others clothes and try to find things that work for us.  Many of my friends are a lot shorter than I am which can make it harder to swap clothes with.  My friend Pippa has great style and I tend to love everything she brings to the clothing swaps, but the problem is that she is 5’2 and I am 5’9.  But when she brought this jumpsuit to the swap, I knew I had to have it.  And luckily when I tried it on, it was the perfect cropped length.  In the past I have found things in stores or clothing swaps that were a little too short in a not cute way,  and I just had them hemmed up a little bit more and then they are the perfect cropped pant! Easy Peasy!

I also got this jacket from Pip.  You can see how it just looks like a cute cropped jean jacket where as on her, it’s was a normal jean jacket.

And my badass vegan shoes I purchased at Nasty Gal.  Obsessed with them.  Be prepared to see them paired up with a lot of outfits.

It feels like there are shops on every corner in Los Angeles.  I don’t think you could hit every single one in your lifetime even if you wanted to, and I don’t…that sounds exhausting.  I’m always trying to find new places in my neighborhood and recently I walked into this place called Style Express.  It’s super inexpensive like a Forever 21 and they have some cute stuff.  I  am really into the big bell sleeves at this point on a lot of my clothing (once I find something I like, I have to have like 9 million of the same thing).  I found this cute little elephant scarf at a little shop in Santa Fe, NM.  I don’t remember the name but I’ve seen them popping up everywhere.

It’s finally been cold enough in LA to sweaters which is so fucking nice and rare.  The last 5 years we haven’t had any kind of winter and we’ve needed them, especially when they bring rain (drought much).  But I’m sure I will be over the cold weather in like 2.5 seconds and want the 70’s back.  That’s being a southern californian for ya.

90’s Vibe

I love baggy clothes.  I know they may not be the most flattering, but they are by far the most comfortable.  They remind me of the 90’s when everyone rocked the baggy jean look.  When I was in Vermont last week it was quite chilly and perfect temperatures for chunky sweaters.  I maybe get to wear things like this in LA once in a blue moon when the temperature drops or if I journey off to the mountains.  So the opportunity to wear fall/winter clothes is quite fun for a day or two.  Btw, I should have worn a jacket this day, it was windy as fuck and I froze my butt off.

I’m pretty sure I got this cardigan at a thrift store in Los Angeles a few years ago.  I had forgotten about it, like many things in my closet.  I’m sure everyone can relate to that.  I just started reading a book about tidying up your home and taking control of your life (more on that later) but it inspired me to start going through all of my stuff.  Hence, finding this gem.

This oversized dress I snagged at a clothing swap and the shoes came from Target.  I’ve been wanting clogs forever but due to the fact that most are made from leather, I hadn’t gotten a pair.  But Target is killing it with their shoe selection lately and I scored big with these.

It’s been 90 degrees here in LA for the last week, which is INSANE but to be completely honest, totally normal.  Our summer has basically become August through October.  So while the rest of the country is breaking out sweaters and having pumpkin spiced lattes, Angelenos are trying to wear as little as possible to stay cool.

As we all know, not every trend works for every person.  Just because the fashion industry touts something as “the next best thing”  doesn’t mean you have to get on board.  That’s one thing I love about fashion, you wear what works for you.  I still don’t think I have a specific style.  Sometimes I like more of a rocker vibe and sometimes I want to be more girly.  And that’s totally ok.  I’ve also had to make some adjustments over the last few years switching to a vegan lifestyle.  There are plenty of things that I won’t buy just based on the fact that they have animal products in them.

All that being said, I am completely loving this off the shoulder trend.  I love the upper part of a woman’s body.   The shoulders, the neck, the clavicle…I think it’s so sexy.  So shirts that show them off are a straight up HELL YES for me!

The World’s Greatest Overalls

Okay, maybe they’re not the greatest overalls ever but they are pretty damn awesome.  While I love a good super comfy laid back overall, I also love a good fitted pair which is why I’m obsessed with these.  I got them a few weeks ago at Madewell.

I was also super excited that they didn’t have a leather label on the back.  As a vegan, you constantly have to look for anything that might have animal products in it/on it and I’ve realized that a lot of the more expensive jeans have leather labels on the back.  When I first went vegan I had to get rid of a lot of my jeans for that reason.

These are so perfect as we head into fall (if it ever actually comes to LA).  I will be wearing these A LOT!!!
