California’s Crazy Super bloom

All the rain in California this year has been a godsend.  The last 6 years have been so dry and our winters felt more like mild summers.  But not this year!  This year we were blessed with shit tons of rain which resulted in these crazy super blooms!  The Antelope Valley and Lake Elsinore were the 2 main spots everyone and their grandmothers were going to take pictures.  When we got to “the spot” in Lake Elsinore there were like 200 other people there (i’m assuming a lot of them were bloggers) taking photos.  It was kinda cool to see.  My allergies were hating every second of it but it was well worth it.  We didn’t see any poppies that day but as you can see from the photos we got tons of yellow wild flowers.  I hope it rains like this every year.

Coolest Cropped Jeans Jacket

A few posts back I did a write up about this bomb as vegan clothing line I found called Olaf Designs Studio. Ten percent of all sales are donated to Animals Australia which is something to feel great about.  Aside from the top and skirt in the other post, I also got this amazing denim jacket.  It is the perfect crop for the summer.  Or any day in Southern California (don’t be jealous, just move here).  You’ll definitely see me sporting it a lot in the next few months.  I love it!

One of the things I love about the internet is that it connects you with people that you never knew existed.  I am constantly discovering new clothing lines via the inter web,  and I especially love ones that share the same values as me, which is why I was stoked to discover Olaf Design Studio.  Their mission statement: “Build a wardrobe of beautiful, flattering essentials and feel good getting dressed every morning. Vegan. Sustainable. Ethical. These are the cornerstones of what we’re all about. A Brisbane based label where everything is designed and made under one roof, using fabrics that are friendly to animals and the environment. They look better, feel better and wear longer. Simple, classic staple pieces that never go out of style. It is my hope that by creating and consuming mindfully, we will discourage the pervasive view of clothing as disposable.”

The line is so airy and feminine.  It’s perfect for the Southern California weather.  One thing I love about smaller, independent clothing lines are the personal touches.  When my package arrived there were cute little hand written notes on how to wash the clothes.  Now, that might not sound exciting, but the fact that someone took the time to make them means they care.  This such an awesome line and I love supporting it, oh and 10% of all sales are donated to Animals Australia…HOW COOL IS THAT!?!

Fun and Games

Sometimes it’s fun to be a tourist in your own city.  I hardly ever do it and I’m realizing that I should be.  On a whim, Adam and I decided to head down for a day at the Santa Monica Pier.  It’s been so long since I’ve been there but it was a fun day date.  You can play games, ride rides and get your fortune told.  It’s took me back to my childhood.  Part of my resolutions are to have more fun this year.  Say yes to stuff and not be so boring.  🙂

Clearly by the look on my face in the last photo, I’m terrible at these games.  But I had fun anyway!

Color Block Sweater

Every year at Christmas, my dad and stepmom go to Kauai to escape the harsh Chicago winters.  Some years I’m lucky enough to tag along, this year being one of them.  If you’ve never been to Hawaii, I highly recommend you go at least once.  It’s really a stunning group of islands with such different topography than what we have on the mainland.  Lush, green, tropical…it really needs to be experienced.

This year was much milder than previous years.  I didn’t bring anything “warm” because it was Hawaii but I had thrown in this cute color block sweater (not a warm sweater more like a sweater you wear in California when it’s 60 degrees kind of sweater) that I got from SheIn just before I left.

I’ve been super into solid colors lately, especially white, so when I saw this online I had to get it.  It’s cropped, it comfy and so versatile.  I rocked it with shorts one day as well.  I had also brought along my new, snazzy (do people still use that word?) flats from Gunas, who primarily make hand bags but they did a limited run on shoes and I was lucky enough to get in on that shit before they ran out.

Side note: I was too scared to put all of my weight on that vine because I was afraid it would have broken.
